A new look blog for 2010

I thought as the New Year was nearly upon us I would tweak the design of my blog a little to move into a new decade with a new look and feel.

I will still be posting my thoughts and musings of the digital marketing world, focussing on news and tips to help businesses market online in a better way for 2010. I will also be posting about this mammoth beast that people focus so much attention on, that is Social Media... don't get me wrong it's important to have a good understanding of this media for your business - there are some great tools out there - but don't put your eggs all in one basket (that is to business owners using it for marketing and also to those that run their business showing others how to use it), who knows how this landscape will change in the next 12 months.

Having re-shaped my extra-curricular activities outside of work to allow me to focus on my music a little more, it's now official that I have joined forces with three great friends to form a band - Everyday Heroes.

As you can see, the name is registered, twitter set up @everyday_heroes and more to come. Follow us on Twitter to hear the news as it breaks - gigs, events, websites and more!

I am looking forward to a great year ahead. Are you?

What will graphic design look like in 2010

Fashion is one of those things that we all try and aspire to keep up with. Graphic design is not immune to this. Huge swings in graphic design trends shape the thinking in graphic designers minds and you will find that over the next few weeks people will try and predict 'the style' that will define 2010 (or 2K10).

Thinking about the New Year I thought that I would put forward my prediction for the design style of 2010.

A couple of years ago we saw the 'swoosh' device everywhere - it came at the bottom of letterheads and was incorporated in logos. Pepsi and Capital One being two big players...

We saw 'grunge' used everywhere and I say an awful lot of typographical design (the best I saw was Channel 4's Dumped series - the billboards were awesome!) took shape last year.

What are my thought's for 2010 then?

I think the use of typographical design will continue but with the twist of custom fonts, clever design with glyph shapes and with that, clean lines, very little use of colour and minimalist design. Let's see if I'm right next December.

In light of this I have created two free desktop backgrounds for you using these elements... in a very basic way... feel free to download for FREE. Please comment if you do download - there is a 1920x1200px (Click to download) and a 1024x768px (Click to download) background, use which ever you want.

Happy New Year everyone!
