Becoming more attractive

May 6, 2009 at 4:53am -
views by lovely people!

Becoming more attractive should be a primary drive for every salesperson, business owner, account manager, receptionist, cleaner, delivery driver... absolutely anyone in the organisation or who represents the brand you are building in any way shape or form.

By more attractive I don't mean going and getting botox on the high street, visiting your local plastic surgeon or having your wardrobe completely re-vamped. "I don't want to throw out that hand knitted jumper of a care bear that my Nan gave me for my 21st birthday", and "I can't help the fact that I fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down" I hear you shout. What I am talking about is becoming more attractive at what you do so that you can spend less time selling to people and more time batting the masses away from banging on your front door or calling you up on the phone because you just can't handle the number of enquires you are getting - wouldn't that be nice?

In times like these it is hard for people to make decisions on how to spend the money that they have in the bank on services that they can't see immediate effect from. Marketing, advertising, selling, networking... this can all take time. You need to build up trust and show that you are the best person to buy/take the services your offer.

By concentrating on showing you are the expert in your field you can become this attractive person in a relatively short space of time.

How?

Get in front of as many people as possible - short talks, blogs, twitter, facebook, email marketing... there are so many ways.

Start giving away advice and tips to people for free using these channels. Those that take something of value from what you are sharing with them may then choose to learn more from you and follow you on Twitter, request you as a friend on Facebook or ask for a coffee after the meeting you just spoke at.

By giving away your knowledge and helping others to see that you have more to you than meets the eye will make you more of an attractive person to know - but only if it will add value to their life or business.

Next steps

So how do you start this off? As busy business people how can we spend loads more time generating quality content that people will take value from?

One of the ways we have decided to show people we are a specialists in our area of expertise at Creative Rush is to produce a freely available magazine.

RushCentral - The freshest business publication. Call 01793 600769 for your FREE copy. Soon it will be available at www.rushcentral.co.uk.

We comment on the industries of branding, marketing, design and web, together with interviews of clients and others (such as the FSB) hoping to provide real value to people in their business - as well as providing something to lighten the business world's dark and dampening affects of invoice chasing and such!

Another way is at networking events that I attend, I am always up for giving a short 10 minute talk on something that people can go away with and do that day to have a positive impact in business. Yesterday I did a short talk on social networking and how businesses can take advantage of it to revolutionise the way that they generate leads... exactly what I am talking about now.

Stay tuned!

In my next post on this subject I will go into more detail on how you can generate, or syndicate, quality content to your network of contacts without having to put pen to paper yourself...

...and give some tips on how to create content yourself also.

Very interesting Ant. I think i'm actually in the middle of becoming real attractive because I have done free speaking engagements, talk to people and networking adding value for free to people but comes a time to actually make some money. Any tips about how to convert this value in to money b/c I love helping others, but as you know i have bills too.
